Below is a painting I completed late 2010. While I was developing it I gave it the working title of 'OHS'; a title that I found both appropriate and inappropriate. Since finishing it I've thought of nothing better and therefore left it at that.

Series

The following is a collection of 9 acrylic paintings which together form a wordless sequential narrative. All are approximately 25cm x 25cm and were completed during 2009. I came up with the core idea a few years before this while I was studying although then I didn't have the time to develop it. Of the completed line drawings a course interviewer said they were 'impressionistic', I suppose they were and perhaps the end result is too. This series led me to appreciate the potential of having multiple images to a piece thus allowing greater complexity of things I could depict. Since this work I have completed 2 further series albeit in a single panel format akin to a page of a comic or graphic novel (a lot less time consuming). Oh, I almost forgot: the series is called 'I'm Fine' as it would be the answer to the unasked question.

Course Bits

Here are a couple of pieces I did during my time completing a 2 year illustration course a few years back:

'Australian Identity'

'Australian Identity' is an acrylic painting that along with 'Wind' and a handful of my other pieces featured as part of a group exhibition called Illustré. In the bottom 1/3 of the background I applied paint thickly enough so that it took a while to dry and also enabled me to blend chunks of colour in a somewhat fluid manner.

'Comedypic'

'Comedypic' is a rare example of my digital art (rare because I don't have the software). First a line drawing, scanned, built up in Illustrator and then finishing touches in Photoshop. It was made to a brief about a comedy festival. Digital art is a tool I still haven't thoroughly investigated and while I don't know if it could replace traditional methods for me I still plan to explore its potential. I just wish I had bought the software when I was a student and could buy it for about a quarter of the price. I think it's easier to take risks in a picture while having the safety net of an undo button.

'Wind'

'Wind' is a small acrylic painting, I think about half of an A4. A self promotional piece simply about the word 'wind' (obviously not a breeze but more of a wind up).  

I have a few other pictures from my course which I may post in the future but thats it for the moment.

The Premier Post!

Hello and welcome to the 1st post of The Wet Palette: the virtual resting place for my artwork and illustrative imagery. Also home to the odd rambling comment and occasional insight behind the works shown. I've made this blog so that people who know me can see some of my work and so that the tentacles of my creations can stretch a bit further than the cupboard they lean on.

Wanting Peace   50.8cm x 40.6cm

First up is an acrylic painting I did a little while ago entitled: Wanting Peace. I often struggle naming my pictures (or blogs) however this title came rather easily. I kept the style rather simple and stylised as a bit of a breakaway from work I'd done previously which was significantly more complex. I completed this piece late 2009 early 2010 during summer... which is my least favourite time to paint. I suspect the subject matter and title of this piece is self explanatory enough that I need not go on about it any further.
Shouldn't be too long before the next post as I have a few pieces which are more or less ready to be seen.
